How to Take Care of Combination Skin

Combination skin is vastly different from dry, oily and normal skin type. People tend to mix them up frequently. If you have dry skin in some places and oily in other areas of your face, you have a combination skin type.  Skincare can get just a bit tricky with combination skin type as you have both dry and oily areas on your face, and you have to simultaneously care for both, you have to strike that balance. Generally, you have an oily T zone, (the central part of your face, including your forehead, nose, and chin) because your oil-producing glands are located there, and your cheeks and the skin around your eyes tends to be dry. Meanwhile, your nose and chin may appear to be dry due to dead cell build-up.

Now that you know you have combination skin type, you can finally plan a wholesome routine around it.

Step 1 in your skincare routine has to be cleansing. You have to wash your face daily, with a gentle face cleanser which is alcohol-free. Alcohol products tend to dry out the skin. The one thing you can do to eliminate most products would be to look for products specifically designed for combination skin. As this skin type has just started receiving a lot of attention, not a lot of combination skin products are flooding the market, yet. Kaya Purifying Cleanser could work well for your skin as it is designed for combination to oily skin types and its alcohol-free.

Applying a toner right after cleansing your face is the only time you should actually use a toner. Choose a moisturising toner as it will actually help lower the pH level of your skin. Look for a toner that is specially formulated to keep your skin hydrated. Kaya Daily Pore Minimising Toner will work wonders on your skin as it is formulated with Witch Hazel and cucumber extracts that will help with skin hydration and leave a soothing effect on the skin. You can even try the Kaya Purifying Toner that is non-alcoholic and enriched with mandelic acid. Niacinamide helps clear blemishes so it’s good to keep this handy.

Follow up the toner with a gentle but not heavy moisturiser. Contrary to popular belief, every skin type needs to moisturise. Choosing a moisturiser for your skin type could be tough, hence, you must find the one that suits you. If your combination skin produces excess oil, a good idea would be to get a light moisturiser which will prevent breakouts.  Kaya Daily Use Sunscreen with SPF 30 could be the right pick for you as it’s formulated for combination to oily skin type. And it will also solve the purpose of protection from UVA and UVB rays.

A good tip to follow would be to refrain from touching your face. Your habits as well as good products, in tandem, help in giving your skin the perfect amount of ammunition to face the day. Touching your face, in particular, is a habit that many people tend to have, but keep your hands at bay! They tend to carry invisible dirt which then deposits itself to your skin and could clog your pores.

Whenever your skin gets oily, do not use a cleanser. Even the mildest cleansers could dry out your skin if used over and over again. Rather, blot away the oil with a nice blotting paper or you could keep dry tissues at hand.

Treat yourself to a facemask every now and then. What this will do is keep your skin hydrated without increasing the production of oil or sebum. For combination skin type, you could also multi-mask! Multi masking is just a term for applying multiple face masks on your face at once, according to the different areas of your face. Give it a shot this weekend!

Keep giving your skin the care it needs and whatever be the skin type, it can look and feel amazing each day, every day.
